Get over it.

The most important thing for me (now, at least) about this blogging business is the “log” part in “blog.”: logging things about life; things that I may want to revisit someday; things that I don’t want to forget. I’ve had this site up since 2000 ( or thereabouts ) and have thought of it mostly as “just a place to post some pictures.” Which is true, it is that. But in rereading some earlier posts I’ve realized it is something of a journal, a diary - albeit an imperfect one. A few years ago I foolishly deleted a bunch of posts because they seemed too old, too “irrelevant.” I’ve come to regret that decision a lot.

I have to think primarily in terms of “log” because otherwise the public nature of all this might cause me lose my nerve. The internet is awfully public, y’know. There are plenty of things I want to “log”: passages from a book I’m reading, other bloggers, family photos, trips to the beach, maybe even a thought of my own or two. If I don’t think in terms of “autobiography” or “diary” or “spiritual quest” or “shameless self-promotion” I’ll be okay. It’s a just a log of life. No big deal. Get over it.
